Please don't do this

If you happen to arrive home one day to find flowers sitting on your doorstep, in your porch, or a note through your door telling you they are with a neighbour or in a safe place, and the name on the envelope is not yours, please do the decent thing and let us know!

A few weeks ago we delivered this arrangement. After a conversation yesterday it has transpired the customer who placed the order had given us the wrong address - easy done and it is something which happens often as people forget to update their contacts. There was nobody home when Chris delivered, but as it was a secure block of flats he left them sitting by the door and also popped a note through the letterbox to say he'd left some - just in case some visitor decided to pick them up and walk off with them (yes, sadly, that's happened on more-than-one occasion too). In the event they were stolen the note serves as proof of delivery which also lets the recipient know we've delivered to them.

Obviously the flowers weren't for the person at the address we delivered to (I'm not going to name-and-shame) and nobody has reached out to let me know we'd delivered to the wrong address. Please don't do that; it's not nice, it's dishonest, and my customer paid a lot of money for those flowers to be delivered to their aunt. Just because they gave me the wrong address, it doesn't mean anyone else gets to claim them!
