About Us
Our Story
What began as a casual evening at the local pub between two friends soon turned into a lively, laughter-filled night — and ultimately led to the founding of Moonstones Ltd (Fareham Florist). That spontaneous idea has grown into something truly special, and neither of us has looked back since (or so we like to tell people!).
At the time, I (Sarah) already had nineteen-years of floristry experience under my belt (and many more since), and have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented florists in the country. When my then-employer decided to sell the business to untrained hobbyists, it felt like the right moment to move on and create something of my own.
Once the seed was planted and the company registered, the next big step was finding the right premises — a task that proved trickier than expected. Both Clive and I lived in the Highlands Road area of Fareham, and we had our hearts set on a local shopping precinct. A shop had just become available, and three more were soon to be built. It seemed perfect. However, one unit had already been leased — to another floral design shop. While the difference between a florist and a floral designer may be subtle, we didn’t feel right setting up next door and competing so directly. So, the search continued.
After exploring multiple locations, we eventually found an old bathroom and tile shop in the village of Horndean. Let’s just say — had we known there were five layers of tiles to remove, we might have thought twice! But with the help of countless cups of tea, enough biscuits to keep McVitie’s in business, and a dedicated team of friends and family, we transformed the tired unit into a light, bright, and welcoming florist shop in just three weeks.
Business was blooming (pun intended), but sadly the village itself was in decline. The closure of the main Gales brewery only accelerated the downturn, and after three successful years, it became clear that we needed to relocate. The search began again.
By chance one evening, I popped into the chippie on Fareham Park Road and noticed the neighbouring shop — once a sweet shop I walked past every day on my way to school — was vacant. I used to say I’d own that shop one day (though I hadn’t imagined it would be a florist!). I saw the opportunity and convinced Clive, who was initially hesitant, to take a look. With a little encouragement from family and friends, we visited — and knew instantly it was the right place. It was perfectly located for both of us, just a short walk from home. Within six weeks, the lease was signed, benches built, and we were back in Fareham, trading from our new shop.
That was over nineteenyears ago, and we haven’t looked back since.
Business Today
Today, Moonstones is thriving. We’re honoured to have built a loyal customer base and a reputation we’re truly proud of. In fact, we receive all our work through recommendations — from local funeral directors, wedding venues, and happy customers. We don’t advertise, so those referrals mean the world to us.
With wedding bookings already being taken up to three years in advance, we’re confident that we’ll be serving our community for many more years to come.
Our Specialties
We made a conscious decision not to limit ourselves to one area of floristry. Every customer is important to us, and we want to ensure we can offer something for everyone — whatever the occasion, and whatever the budget.
Whether it's birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, funerals,or "just because" flowers — we specialise in them all. Having said that we have built an excellent reputation regarding our bespoke funeral tributes.
Location & Delivery
You'll find us just around the corner from the main shopping parade on the outskirts of Fareham. We’re often described as a “hidden gem,” which we take as a huge compliment.
While we can’t always guarantee an exact delivery time (funerals being the exception), our friendly driver, Chris, will always do his best to accommodate your preferred window.
Being in a semi-rural area, deliveries can be a challenge — traffic, tractors, and houses with no clear signage don’t make it easy! Any directions or tips you can provide are always appreciated. They help us get your flowers delivered efficiently and ensure they spend more time being enjoyed by the recipient, not sitting in the back of a van.
